cut 'n play ('07~)
cut 'n play is a crossfader-triggered sampler module made with Max/MSP. Utilizing Rane Empath mixer's CD trigger output which sends a 5v signal when the CF is open and 0v when closed, cut 'n play records the sound from the turntable based on the CF movement. The signal is read into the computer through the audile USB interface. When fader is open, sound is recorded into one of four buffers. When the fader closes, the time of how long it was open is counted and applied to the buffer as loop points. At each click of the fader a new buffer is selected, and the playback of these buffers can be controlled to be sequential or random. This system succeeds in integrated real-time sampling into the quick movements of the turntablist without disrupting the flow. The sounding result can range from beat juggling type effects to stuttering glitchy sounds.
